China has just activated the world’s largest floating solar energy farm. What’s it floating on? Why, a coal mining town that became permanently flooded!
Don’t worry, though. Even without this one particular town, China still burns more coal than the rest of the world combined.
But this new plant will produce enough energy to power 15,000 homes. At least according to the company that made it, Sungrow.
Why build it on water instead of land? The water apparently helps keep the panels cool.
While China does have a reputation for toxic air…
…China has also been making strides to become more “green.”
Not this green. (VCG/VCG via Getty Images)Last year, China produced more solar energy than any other country. The National Energy Administration says 11% of China’s energy use is renewable.
